There are lots of websites that offer free clipart, graphics, animations, photographs, or images for private non-commercial use. Sometimes the images are completely free. Other sites have legitimate "free" resources but require you to create an "account" by registering first. Beware! Your email address will now likely be used for marketing. Some of these companies trade their resources for access to your name, address and/or email. I usually have a legitimate but empty email address for these situations. This empty email is usually web-based and the mail to this address is not sent directly to my desktop.
Other websites offer royalty-free resources . Companies that provide royalty-free images or music / sounds usually ask that you pay a subscription fee to access and use their entire collections. Sometimes there is a price per item that is put in the "cart." There are no restrictions on usage or further fees required on royalty-free resources. All of the sites listed below give away a portion of their collection as a marketing strategy to entice subscribers to use their services. Enjoy the many "free" samples in these sites or if you find a great site, the subscription fee may be worth paying.
