What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content, such as news headlines, blog entries, site updates, etc. Using an RSS reader, you can view data feeds from various websites.
In order to subscribe to an RSS feed or newsfeed, you will need two things: an RSS reader (also known as a news aggregator) and the URL (web address) of the RSS feed that you wish to subscribe.
- Choose and download a News Aggregator / RSS Reader from the list below.
- Locate the web address (URL)
of the RSS Feed that you wish
to subscribe. Insert the URL
of the news feed. Do not be
alarmed by all the XML file
code that may be shown in the
window. Just look for the URL
web address located at the
very top – then copy
and paste into your RSS Reader
usually through an "add
feed" button.
For example, to subscribe to Bernajean’s blog, place the following URL into your RSS or news aggregator. http://rss.mac.com/bernajeanporter/iWeb/Site/Blogs/rss.xml
- Information in the feed will automatically be updated when the feed contains NEW content. Many of the news readers will allow you to set the interval time for directing the software to look for a feed update - others will simply update daily.
